22nd edition of Imagens do Real Imaginado Photography, Film and Multimedia Festival

Imagens do Real Imaginado is inviting submissions until 2 October 2026.

The 22nd edition of Imagens do Real Imaginado — Photography, Film and Multimedia Series, under the theme ‘The Far Away Here’, will take place from 16 to 20 November 2026, in the Luís Soares auditorium.
Images create their own geographies: they bring the distant closer, distance the near, and establish territories of meaning where the real and the imagined meet. This call for papers aims to foster discussion and analysis of themes that intersect these three areas, facilitating the convergence of approaches and perspectives that engage in dialogue through the proposed topics — from directing actors and non-linear narratives in film, to portraiture and landscape in photography, and from traditional animation to AI-based animation in multimedia.
Accordingly, the Department of Visual Arts and the Department of Multimedia invite researchers, lecturers and Master’s and/or PhD students to submit abstracts of papers to be presented at IRI, which explore, through cinema, photography and multimedia, the relationships between the near and the far, between the immediate and the remote, and between the present and what lies beyond it.
IRI is a space where research and artistic practice converge, where the far becomes the here and the here expands towards the far.
