The Luga Poster Biennale 2024 opens on 24 September at 5.00 pm with a talk entitled ‘Territories of the Poster: Contexts and Perspectives’, featuring Helena Barbosa and Rui Mendonça – moderated by Vítor Quelhas and Horácio Marques – followed by the Travelling Exhibition on the Poster.
LUGA is a biennial event that promotes creative exchange between Portugal and Spain and is open to a broad international community, through an extracurricular event which, in 2024, extended to more than fifty countries with a considerable number of participants, where the diversity of aesthetic discourses seeks to highlight the importance of this medium, which unequivocally contributes to enhancing the careers of design professionals.
In light of advances in digital production and Artificial Intelligence, it is important to examine the poster as an autonomous medium for political and cultural thought, transcending its merely informative or aesthetic role.
The Luga Poster Biennale recorded a record number of entries, totalling over 2,000 posters.
With the deadline for entries now past, the competition enters the decisive selection phase, during which the posters will be judged by an international jury comprising some of the most influential and prestigious figures in graphic design, typography and contemporary visual communication: Artur Rebelo, Astrid Stavro, David Carson, Helena Barbosa, Laura Meseguer, Lizá Ramalho, Pepe Barro and Uqui Permui.
The jury’s selection results will be announced on 31 October and further dates will be announced shortly.
