SONANDO EL INTERSTICIO
Acoustic ecologies, multisensory experiences and translocal connections
Intensive Seminar
Led by Luís Gomes da Costa
PhD researcher at ID+
21 May, 16:00–20:00 (GMT-6)
ID+ UA researcher Luís Gomes da Costa will lead a four-hour intensive online seminar on 21 May as part of the ‘De lo audible a lo aural’ diploma course, organised by the National Sound Archive of Mexico in collaboration with the Ibermemoria Sonora, Fotográfica y Audiovisual Programme of the Ibero-American General Secretariat.
This seminar explores the author’s practice spanning more than 20 years at the intersection of sound and audiovisual anthropology and sound and media art in the rural Portuguese region of Viseu Dão Lafões, focusing on the concept of ‘intermediality’ (‘In-betweenness’) between senses, media and places. The seminar will analyse how sound can function as a tool that blurs the boundaries between the various senses and artistic forms to create multisensory experiences rich in multiple meanings. The session will also explore sound’s capacity to connect distant places, using multisite and comparative ethnographies as conceptual inspiration, and presenting sound projects that open up dialogues between diverse acoustic environments.
