Carlos Gabriel dos Santos Cardoso

Carlos Gabriel Cardoso holds a Integrated Master's Degree and currently is a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Aveiro, with great interest in computational biomechanics and traumatic brain injury (TBI). His work focuses on developing finite element head models to assess biomechanical responses of the human brain under impact, considering sex-specific differences and injuries associated with contacts sports (e.g., soccer and boxing). Carlos integrates experimental data, numerical simulations, and machile learning (ML) to improve injury prediction and prevention strategies. Additional research includes the characterization of brain tissues, modeling of protective equipment (e.g., boxing gloves), and the analysis of athlete-specific impact data in collaboration with institutions like the University of Delaware and the Portuguese Boxing Federation. He is actively involved in  academic dissemination, with contributions to peer-reviewed journals and conferences in biomechanics and computational mechanics.
