UA.LABDESIGN — University in the Villages, an encounter of design, wisdom and innovation.

The exhibition showcases the outcomes of UA.LABDESIGN, a laboratory that brings together students, professors, and researchers from design and related disciplines in immersive experiences within predominantly rural areas affected by depopulation. These regions, despite their challenges, retain remnants of once-flourishing traditional creative and cultural practices. The initiative facilitates transdisciplinary dialogue facilitated by design and actively engages with the custodians and inheritors of the cultural heritage specific to the contexts in which it operates in order to secure sustainable futures.

On display will be a collection of objects developed through design immersions in the territory, from the mountainous interior of the Aldeias do Xisto (PROJECT@X) to, more recently, the landscapes surrounding the Serra do Caramulo, in the municipality of Tondela.

This event will be a unique opportunity to share reflections on the future of design in the territory, consolidate and expand this collaborative network, and celebrate the potential of local cultural heritage.
