SAPPD Summer Camp 2021: PLANNING AND DESIGNING CITIES FOR ALL (online, 20 August to 11 September 2021)

Registration starts on 20 June 2021 with limited seats for 50 Indonesian students and 50 international students. Students are required to submit a page of motivation letter mentioning their objectives to join the SummerCamp as part of selection requirements via: https://admission.itb.ac.id/registration/nonreguler.

GLOBAL STUDIO IN PLANNING AND DESIGN
SAPPD SummerCamp 2021 is a global studio uniquely designed to enhance students’ capabilities in anticipating current issues on urban planning and design in the Global South. The course provides essential knowledge and skills utilized by planners and designers to create, research, analyze, and prepare development plans and design projects. The studio expands students’ academic and professional skills and enriches their ability to deal with issues and problems raised in contemporary planning and design.

SAPPD SummerCamp 2021 is part of the flagship program of the International Joint Studio, which has been held annually by the School of Architecture, Planning and Policy Development of ITB since 2015. The studio outputs have been widely published and have received international recognition, including from World Urban Campaign in 2016, DFAT Australia via Endeavour Mobility Grant in 2016 and 2017 and ISOCARP in 2020 via Student Special Mention Award.

This year, SAPPD SummerCamp 2021 is hosted by Urban and Regional Planning Programs of ITB and themed Planning and Designing Cities for All with a focus on elaborating targets of SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by utilizing case studies from different parts of the world, with focus on 3 main targets: (a) Sustainable Housing and Infrastructure, (b) Sustainable Transport Systems, (c) Sustainable Urbanization.

CREDIT EARNING
SAPPD SummerCamp 2021 is part of the ITB program Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM/Free Learning Free Campus). It opens the opportunity for final-year bachelor and master degree students to earn 4 credit units by joining this course. For bachelor students may apply for PL 4006 Topik Khusus Perencanaan II /Special Planning Topics II and PL 4007 Sistem Inovasi Wilayah dan Kota/Urban and Regional Innovation Systems II (2+2 Credit Points), while master students may apply for PL 6009 International Studio on Planning and Design in the Global South (4 Credit Points).

STRUCTURE
SAPPD SummerCamp 2021 is structured as a studio comprising lectures from global academics, studio work, student presentation and exhibition, with a hybrid-studio model being introduced: (a) fully online for overseas students and Indonesian students who are not able to visit Bandung; (b) hybrid (online lectures and offline studio work) for students who are able to visit Bandung during the SummerCamp. All lectures and studio activities are delivered in English. Students with advanced English proficiency are encouraged to apply.

SCHEDULE
SAPPD SummerCamp 2021 is held every Friday and Saturday from 20 August to 11 September 2021. A detailed outline will be sent to selected participants by early August 2021.

STUDENT VISIT
Student Visit is a special feature of SAPPD SummerCamp 2021 that provides partial funding for 2 students from overseas and/or outside ITB to visit the School after the completion of the SummerCamp. Please mention your interest in joining the Student Visit scheme in your motivation letter when you register for this course.
