Description:
In this workshop, we will challenge the human-centered paradigm, prevalent in many disciplines, including design practice and education. As we have grown to understand our entanglement with complex social-ecological-technological systems, we are becoming increasingly aware of the shortcomings of human-centrism prevalent in current research and practice. Thus, we need to shift towards embracing more-than-human beings, entities, materials, and technologies as actors with which we are intimately entangled and share the world.
The workshop will also include a panel discussion with more-than-human-centred practitioners from different fields:
- Heidi Biggs, Georgia Institute of Technology School of Interactive Computing; Atlanta (US)
- Anton Poikolainen Rosén, Department of Computer Science, Stockholm University, Stockholm University (SE)
- Paul Coulton, Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts, Lancaster University (UK)
How to register for the workshop:
Teachers can choose to integrate the workshop into their course schedules. Alternatively, they can forward the workshop invitation to their students, allowing them to register for the workshop as an elective activity. Teachers and staff who are interested in participating in the workshop are also very welcome to register for the workshop.
Organisers:
The workshop is organised by Malmö University (SE), Koç University (TU), Oulu University (FI), members of the UNIC alliance co-funded by the European Union and University of Porto (PT) with Clara Venâncio (PhD Student) and Dr Bruno Giesteira from FBAUP. The workshop activities are inspired by the educational resources developed by the MOVA project.
