Gabriela Madureira (TEMA, ID+) is representing Portugal for the first time in 25 years at the Summer School on Engineering Design Research (SSEDR’24)

Gabriela Madureira, a doctoral student in Mechanical Engineering since 2024, is representing Portugal for the first time in 25 years at the Summer School on Engineering Design Research (SSEDR’24) organized by The Design Society. She is a scholarship holder under the Mobilizing/Green Agenda Project, “Alliance for Energy Transition” (Ref.ª BI/UI64/11372/2024), funded by the PRR – Recovery and Resilience Plan and NextGenerationEU European Funds, under the supervision of Sérgio Tavares (TEMA), Sílvia Soares (ID+), e João Dias-de-Oliveira (TEMA).

Her doctoral project focuses on developing new approaches and concepts for distribution substations dedicated to renewable energy production, supported by the University of Aveiro’s research entities: TEMA – Center for Mechanical Technology and Automation, and ID+ – Institute for Research in Design, Media, and Culture.

SSEDR’24 takes place over two weeks—June 9 to 15 in Malta, and July 28 to August 3, 2024, in Denmark. Participants will study and apply the Design Research Methodology (DRM) to advance research in design. This program aims to enhance understanding of the process of developing design solutions and products, as well as to improve these processes to achieve desired future outcomes.

The program features international top researchers such as Lucienne Blessing from the Singapore University of Technology and Design, Caetano Cascini from Politecnico di Milano, and Daniela Pigosso from the Technical University of Denmark, providing a rich interdisciplinary and intercultural learning experience.
