Bruno Daniel Vieira Gomes

Daniel Vieira (1982), an industrial designer, lives and works in Portugal. He holds a bachelor's degree and a licentiate degree in Product Design, as well as a master's degree in Integrated Design. He earned a doctoral degree in Fashion Design with the thesis "Design Methodologies for Smart Textile Products in the Field of Sport," developed under the project TSSiPRO – Technologies for Sustainable and Smart Innovative Products, promoted by the Textile Engineering Department of the University of Minho in partnership with the research centres 2C2T – Textile Science and Technology Centre and Lab2PT – Landscape, Heritage and Territory Laboratory.

In 2009, he was awarded the Daciano da Costa National Design Award by the Centro Português de Design in the equipment/industrial design category. The jury highlighted that "the simplicity and coherence of the products and systems presented in the portfolio, the honesty and clarity with which he identifies his references, thinks about them, and reinvents them – in short, he has an elevated design culture."

He has a career distinguished by product development for several companies in the design industry, as well as by scientific research and teaching in higher education. Presently, he is a Professor at the University of Aveiro. Inspired by the beauty of everyday objects, industrial standards, and the daily interactions between people and their surrounding objects, he combines identity and functionality in pragmatic design.

In his theoretical and practical research, he focuses on methodologies, methods, processes, and design techniques aimed at analysing the context of use and defining user requirements. In parallel, Daniel conducts research into the identification and systematisation of Portuguese product design. Over the years, he has been regularly invited by various universities and polytechnics to speak about design at seminars and open lectures.
