Gabriela Sá

Gabriela is a 2D digital artist, teacher and researcher, focused on animation, visual development and storytelling.

Gabriela has a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts - Multimedia (2015) from FBAUP (Porto, Portugal). She spent a semester abroad studying Animation at KASK (Gent, Belgium), under the Erasmus program. Soon after, she got a Master’s degree in Illustration and Animation (2018) from ESD - IPCA (Barcelos, Portugal), with the project “Representações de género no cinema de animação mainstream dos últimos 25 anos - Desenvolvimento de representações não estereotipadas do género feminino”.

After that, she worked as a researcher and game artist in Mobeybou, an FCT funded project being developed in the Research Centre On Child Studies (CIEC) in the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal). There, she created visual assets for the Mobeybou game and mobile apps and aided in the development, testing and implementation of UX/UI and gameplay design.

She teaches Visual Development for Video Games at the Master in Engineering of Digital Games Development and Character Design at the Master in Illustration and Animation, at IPCA (Barcelos, Portugal). Previously taught Visual Storytelling in the undergraduate degree of Moving Image, at ESEC - UALG (Faro, Portugal).

She is currently enrolled in the PhD in Design, at FBAUP (Porto, Portugal), with an FCT scholarship, developing research on the subject of female representation in popular animated feature filmes of the 21st century.
