Olivia Maria Marques da Silva

Olívia da Silva, Porto, Portugal, 1962. PhD in Photography from the Faculty of Art and Design at the University of Derby, UK, in 2000. Fellow of the Fine Arts Department of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Portuguese Center of Photography between 1998 and 2000. Since 1992, she has been a lecturer at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (IPP), where she currently coordinates the School of Media Arts and Design (ESMAD) at Campus 2 in Vila do Conde. Member of the General Council of P.Porto, member of the Management Council of P.Porto, member of the Coordination Council of the Culture Center of P.Porto. President of the Scientific Technical Council of the Escola Superior de Música Artes e Espetáculo, between 2013 and 2015, Director of the Image Arts Department, between 2004 and 2012 and Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Audiovisual Communication in Cinema and Photography, between 2009 and 2015. She has been a member of the A3es teams analyzing proposals for new photography courses since 2014. Collaborated in the MCTES Working Group for Artistic Research in 2014 and 2015. Collaborated in the CCISP and MCTES Working Group during the Bologna process. She is a member of the teaching team of the Doctoral Program in Artistic Creation at UA, IPP and IPL and a lecturer on the Master's Degree in Cinema and Photography. She is the author and co-author of research works on photographic representation and social and cultural identity. She is a member of the Scientific Committee of Cadernos IRI and the Scientific Board of Sophia Journal, Editor and Associate Author. She is a member of the Research Center at the University of Derby, in the School of Arts and Design. She completed his Master's Degree in Photography with the artistic project 8/2 and his PhD with the Dissertation and Artistic Project In The Net on the representation of the Fishing Communities of Matosinhos (PT) and Grimsby (UK). She collaborates in the FCT-funded research centers at FAUP, CCRE, FLUP and IF and is an integrated member of UNIMAD/ ESMAD/IPP. She has participated in several research proposals for the FCT with INESC through researcher Paula Viana and at U.Minho. She exhibits regularly in Portugal and abroad. Her photographic portrait projects include: 8/2; Cabbage and Kings; Trace and Memory; In the Net; Sem Luvas; Memórias de Nós; Quatro Olhares Sobre a Moagem Harmonia; Vai à Janela; Mozart no Bairro; Moinhos do Tempo; Formas de Ver and Nadir Afonso - no tempo e no lugar, O Fio da Meada, in Santo Tirso. In 2015 she exhibited Nadir Afonso: no tempo e no lugar at the 18th Cerveira Biennial. In 2018 she exhibited the Contratempo Photographic Project at the Portuguese Photography Center in Porto.
