Maria Isabel da Fonseca e Castro Moreira Azevedo

Isabel Azevedo was a Post-doctoral Researcher in Art Studies - Image Holography (2010-2016), at the University of Porto, Faculty of Sciences, Depart. of Physics and Astronomy, Portugal and De Montfort University, Imaging & Displays Research Group, UK, with a grant from Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, Portugal; PhD in Art Studies (8 Nov. 2005), from the University of Aveiro, Department of Communication and Art; Post-graduation in Art Holography (1988-1990) at Department of Physics, Optical Lab., Univ. of Porto, with a grant from Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian; Graduation in Fine Arts/Painting (1987), from Faculty of Fine Arts, Univ. of Porto. She was Professor of Fine Arts at ARCA/EUAC, Univ. School of Arts of Coimbra, (2006-2015); She completed the supervision of 10 Master Degree students; and 1 PhD student at University of Vigo, Spain; she was member of the Jury of 4 PhDs and 47 Master Degrees, at ARCA/EUAC Coimbra, Univ. of Aveiro, Univ. of Lisbon, Univ. of Seville, Spain, some of them as principal examiner and was external evaluator to the European Mention, at Univ. of Seville; Assistant Professor of Fine Arts at ARCA/EUAC, (1992-2005); Monitor of Printmaking at Faculty of Fine Arts, Univ. of Porto, (1987-1993).

Isabel Azevedo is a Multimedia Artist who investigates the relationships between Art, Science and Technology. Having light as a subject matter, she produced and presented multimedia environments and holographic installations, individually or collectively, exhibiting since 1984. Isabel Azevedo received the Revelation Prize in 1º Biennale of Art of Sintra, 1987. She received the Shearwater Foundation Grant on July, 2000.

She published 32 papers in international peer-review conference proceedings, 20 of these 32 papers were published as a senior (corresponding) author, and some of the international oral presentations were: Art in Holography 2, Univ. of Nottingham, UK (1996); 6th ISDH, Lake Forest College, Illinois, USA (1997); Holography Conference, St. Pölten, Austria ( 2000); CIANTEC - International Congress in Art, New Technologies and Communication, Univ. of São Paulo, Brasil (2007- 08) and Univ. of Aveiro, (2009) ; 8th ISDH Shenzhen, China (2009); since 2011, Practical Holography: Displays, Materials and Applications, OPTO - SPIE's Conferences, Photonics West, San Francisco, USA; 9th ISDH MIT Media Lab, Cambridge Massachusetts, USA (2012); 10th ISDH Saint Petersburg, Russia (2015). Since 2007 at present, Isabel Azevedo is a Senior Researcher collaborating at ID+ Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture, Univ. of Aveiro and Univ. of Porto, Portugal. She is peer review conference proceedings; invited member of the conference committee Practical Holography XXXI, XXXII and XXXIII: Displays, Materials and Applications, OPTO - SPIE's Photonics West, San Francisco, USA (30 Jan. 2017), (27 Jan. 2018), (4-5 Feb. 2019); invited Art Chair to the 11th ISDH International Symposium on Display Holography, Univ. of Aveiro, Portugal (25-29 June 2018). Curator of the Exhibition, and also participating, “Art in Holography: Light, Space & Time”, Holograms Exhibition, Aveiro City Museum, Portugal, (26 June-30 Sept. 2018). Invited speaker in the Leonardo’s 50th Anniversary Day, on 26 June during ISDH 2018.
