Daniel Martins Pinheiro Maciel

Integrated Researcher for ID+ Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture at the Polytechnic Institute of Cavado and Ave Co-Director at MDOC - Melgaço International Film Festival Member of the AO NORTE Film Society I have a Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology and a Master's degree in Medical Anthropology, both from the Coimbra University's Faculty of Sciences and Technology. I am a PhD in Anthropology (Power, Resistance and Social Movements) from the NOVA School of Social Sciences. My dissertation, titled "Of Pride and Seed: Cultural practices in northen portuguese prisons" focused the institutional context of and the perception of actors involved in cultural and artistic activities in prisons, as well as their relationship with new forms of discourse surrounding institutional power, punishment and discipline. Currently focusing on the relationships between heritage, photography, and survival in disintegrating communities of northern Portugal.
